BACKGROUND 

Following the record breaking Black, Brown and Youth voter turnout in the Georgia Runoff election, state legislatures across America released an offensive onslaught of undemocratic legislation designed to specifically suppress the vote of communities of color and youth voters.  These actions were made possible in many states due to the erosion of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 by the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Shelby County v. Holder (2013).

Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC), Public Citizen, Declaration for American Democracy (DFAD), and the Leadership Conference, and our 80+ coalition partners will host a National John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Action Day on May 8, 2021 in support of S1: For the People Act (S1), HR4: John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (HR4), D.C. statehood, and addressing the issue of the filibuster.

JOIN OUR MOVEMENT 

We encourage you to join us in kicking off our National John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Action Day on May 8 by doing all of the following during the week of April 5th:

• Become a National John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Action Day partner by completing the Partner Endorsement Form.

• TJC, Public Citizen, DFAD, and the Leadership Conference, and our 80+ coalition partners social media posts. 

• Post social media graphics and join the Declaration for American Democracy for daily Social Media Storms from April 5-9, 12-1pm ET/9-10am PT. See below for the link to the toolkit.

• Utilize this social media kit to post social media graphics with the social media copy provided below.
